  • Well....the good news is....that I can get around not having to format the hard drive.  But the bad news is I have to buy another hard drive, format it with XP, pull off the stuff I need from the other drive and then format it.  A little trouble some and time consuming huh?  This PC is 16 months old....do I just bite the bullet and get a new one and not mess with this? or go ahead and buy a new hard drive?  We usually replace our PC's every 2 years and not to say this is a old one or for that matter a bad one.  Was working fine until I downloaded  the XP service pack 1.  It's a 1.7 Ghz with a Pentium 4, a burner, a DVD and the 40 gig hard drive.  Of course it has a few other bells and whistles but you get the picture.  Any suggestions out there?  I'm not sure which way I should go.  HELP!  I'm at work and will need to make this short.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, catch you all soon.  I'll check back later for any suggestions on what you think I should do.

  • Yikes!  That’s a real bummer!  I just loaded XP on my computer at home last night.  Yes, I am a little behind the times but it works for me so far!  I don’t really know what to tell you about whether to buy another PC or not.  Ours is about 3 years old and it doesn’t have near all the bells and whistles that yours does.  I don’t think I would be getting a new one if it were me.  I would just tinker with it trying to fix it until I threw it out the window if it doesn’t cooperate!

  • Agree completely with Mel, it's still too new to dump it & buy another...Tim has this really good friend who does all our PC computer stuff when something goes wrong...like when Ryan downloaded something & it got this horrible virus & I had to get a new HD....the great thing was that it has all those bells & whistles like yours...so much memory I can't possibly use it all!!  I have Windows XP, so far so good.  Tim is a Mac Man...he & his Dad will only have an Apple & Tim knows how to do everything himself...he even helps out his Dad & Dad's friends.

Good luck & just get your support...you need your $$ to go shopping in Tijuana when you come!!  LOL!!

  • Sorry to hear about your troubles there Susie, gosh, I  think I'd just try to get that one working!!

    But Whatever works for you

  • sorry about your Hard drive.

  • Honey don't dump it and if you do.  I WANT IT! ! ! !  lol  It is too new, you can't get a much better one and a new hard drive if you shop around should not come to more than $200 for a really large size.  Just make sure you get a 7200 rpm try and get a maxtor or a western digital???  it is western something.  My sister says those are the best.   Just popping in to say hi, and have a great day and a wonderful tomorrow.  I hope you get it  all worked out.  They really are reasonably easy to switch out.  Its just getting the info off the other one that is a pain in the arse.   Catch you later.

  • I meant to tell you that my mom is doing pretty well.  She has good days and bad days but at least more good than bad lately!  Thanks for asking!

  • I have no clue. We've had this one for about two years and it's getting slower by the minute. I don't want to replace it but it would be nice to speed it up.
