We will be having an early Thanksgiving this year. Very good friends of ours will be having their Thanksgiving dinner today so that all the family can get together and attend. I'll try to make this a short story so as not to bore everyone.
My husband works for Mervyn's and does the visual merchandising for the store. That means he does all the decorating, very huge job! Each store has it's own manager and believe me they are a very tight knit group (those within his district) anyway. They are on the phone with each other several times a day trying to make sure that each one does the presentations in a very similar manner for the district. Needless to say, we also get together every couple of weeks at a different hangout for eats, drinks and general merriment
We have made some wonderful friends due to his job! One in particular was a fairly young guy who kinda took to us (he was single) and just like to hang around the old couple. We would do lots of stuff together with just the 3 of us or a 4th, when he would meet someone special. (Which he has now and married.) During the course of these adventures we discovered he had grown up in Fairfield as well (where my husband and I both grew up). One day they were talking and low and behold Jim grew up on the same street as my husband, further discussion lead to finding out that both of their sisters played together as children and I went to High School with his mother! It never ceases to amaze me at just how small the world is huh?
Well....since then (about 7 years now) we have been included on most all family get together's. Since my parents are both gone and we are the black sheep of my husbands family these wonderful people have taken us into their hearts and homes.
So, today is Thanksgiving for us and I have to make a pie, what kind you say...hummmm Pecan I think
Everyone have a wonderful Sunday, we'll be stuffing ourselves and needing to wobble home tonight.

Pecan pie....always reminds me of one of the scenes from the movie When Harry Met Sally.
I am very impressed that you have a baby grand piano! WOW, that would be fabulous!!
What a wonderful story and wow isnt it something when you find out how small the world really is by the people you meet?
You mentioned Fairfield ... thats where we are going for thanksgiving .. my husbands aunt lives there and we go there every other year. Small world isnt it?
Thanks for the comment on my site .. I agree.. I love Australia and will for sure be going back as well.
Happy Thanksgiving ~ enjoy your day!
My Dad used to say to me, "It's to bad you can't pick your family"!! How true. Besides Susie, you know you aren't missing much as far as Thanksgiving dinner goes....I recall the 1st Turkey day dinner at you-know-who's. They fixed stove top stuffing & instant mashed 'taters!! I could have just died!! I called my Mom later, crying!! I couldn't believe it and couldn't believe I had left my family to be with this one. What the hell was wrong with me?? As if Thanksgiving wasn't bad enough, then I find out that Christmas is "just another day!!" at this household. I was so disappointed.
I'm thinking here, you know, you could always join us for the holidays. Wouldn't that be nice?? What I wouldn't give to have that opportunity!! Maybe not this year as I know you need advance time to plan but maybe the next one??
BTW, do I know this Jim fella?? Have a great Monday!! Hope Joe is feeling better. Love you both!!
That is so sweet! I think we all want to be a part of a family gathering when Thanksgiving rolls around. Normally my aunts, uncles & cousins all get together for a family get together at my moms. Since my mom is just starting to feel good after her surgery she didn't think she could handle having a house full so it's just going to be my brothers and their family. It is going to be different for sure. Another thing that will bring us down is that this year Thanksgiving falls on the 8th anniversary of my dad's death. So that will also make it seem weird.
Have fun.
I wish it was turkey day already!!!!
MMMUUUUUMMMMMMM I LOVE MY MOMMIES COOKING! You couldnt imagine I am 31 and I still talk like that....
I hope you enjoyed it!!!
Much love and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Queenie Teenie Meanie!!!!!!!
I wish we had Thanksgiving in Aussie land. I just love turkey. Maybe i'll just cook a turkey anyway in honour of "I love turkey" day.
I'm also continually amazed of how it is such a small world. When I started my university course, there were 2 people also doing it that I went to different primary schools with. Out of the 50 people doing the course, the chances of that happening were very slim. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Pecan is my favorite! It's great to spend Thanksgiving with special people.
I'm so glad they have taken you to their hearts and home Susie. That's so nice to hear.
Thanksgiving will be kinda lonely for us, as it will be the 2 of us only. That's the bad part about moving away from family. The Holidays.
Hope you have a wonderful time. Thanks for the Snowball battles and all the mail. Oh and My nick on IM is Wickgal...
Let's try to hook up soon.
(((((Susie)))))
Sounds like an enjoyable time. That's the important thing. I'm lucky enough to get to spend my Thanksgiving with my family and Denises family since we all get together in one place. Kinda weird, but nice.
Wow, small world!
