  • G'day to everyone, as I learned to say when we were in Australia   Got the pot going on the stove to make a nice stew for my hubby when we gets home.  That's one of his favorite meals.

Yes, today is Sunday and he has to work, (almost every Sunday).  But...as I mentioned in several blogs previously he injured himself at work (10/23) 3 days before we left for Australia, and didn't have such a wonderful time the first week we were there, unfortunately!

Now your asking what is the point to this story, it is about employer's in today's environment.  He has worked for Mervyn's (part of Target Corp.) for 12 years now.  His position reports directly to the store manager who has been there for about 3 years now, a woman.  They have known each other for the full 12 years he has worked there, as she started out as a associate on the floor like most people and has been promoted several times.  Now...because he is on reduced work duties and cannot stoop, climb, bend, all the things he has to do for his job they are treating him like shit!  His normal schedule is Sunday through Thursday, he does the visual presentation for the store.  This week's schedule is so erratic it's pathetic.  They have him going in at 10:00, 11:00 am until 8 and 9 pm in the evening which means he will have a problem getting to his doctor's appointments, which he has 3 a week.  His normal schedule is 6 am to 3 pm so he has time to get the store ready before it opens.  It just appears that no employer cares about their associates anymore!  You can bust your ass for years and the minute you are injured (on the job) they want to discard you like an old piece of rubber.  Plus the fact that they are still questioning whether it is a work related injury.  So...no money as of yet for the week and a half he was off work or the mileage to the doctors, etc.

Now since the MRI on the 20th of December they say he needs surgery to remove the piece of disk that has slipped and is sitting on his nerve or he will have permanent nerve damage.  This means he will always be numb on his 3 smaller toes of his left foot, the whole left side of his foot and up the leg!  I'm just not real keen on employers today.  You would think that they would be concerned for a good associate wouldn't you?  He never call's in sick, is there for all the extra time when they want him and this is how they are treating him now, go figure!

That's enough complaining for today, sorry, I shouldn't be depressing here.  Hope this finds everyone having a good time with family and friends.

  • Have him take good care of himself, stay steady as she goes and affirm the good work he has done for the store in the last 12 years. In 1989 I was hit in the driver's door by a drunk driver going 55 mph. He left me for dead and took off but good samaritans caught him. I hurt on my left side a LOT but I take it in stride most of the time. I am lucky to be alive! Perspective, perspective. Thank God you are there to emotionally support him. Thanks for visiting my site.

  • How well I understand.  I injured my left eye at work they treated me at work and I went home at 1 AM  I woke up and was in severe pain, eye swollen, I drove to the hospital. They treated me (my eye was torn) had 20/30 vision in both eyes.  Work refuses to pay for the co-pay because:  I didn't call my supervisior and tell him I was going to the emergency room...at 1 AM.  Didn't know I had to!  Still having trouble with that left eye.  Guess it's that way with all work places.

  • Hi ((((Susie))))  1st of all I love stew

And I hope everything works out with  hubby, hes lucky to have a nice supportive wife like you.

    You both TC!!

  • Sadly, I'm not surprised...lack of decent employers is why my husband is starting his own business.  If your honey wants to be a plumber, c'mon down to San Diego!  (It's 70ish today)

  • Love the cats on your Back ground. Have a good 2003.

  • The unfortunate things about today's work world are:  1) you are no longer a person.  You are a position that can be moved around or removed with no personal touch, 2) loyalty is not rewarded because after so many years your salary has reached a point where they prefer you retire so that they can hire someone who has no experience and pay them a pittance and 3) you must look out for yourself first and foremost!  This is not sour grapes.  This is experience.  I watched our company turn from a really caring place to one that has rules and regulations that are to be obeyed or else (see rule #1).  People are layed off without thought to their needs.  Corporate says "you must reduce the work force in your office by 8 FTEs (full time employees).  No longer personal.  It is really a shame the twist the world has taken.  Hope your husband's operation is successful.  Be thankful you have the health insurance to cover it.  zera

  • When the govenment complains about how the value in society is going down the drain ,its no wonder when people are treated like that at work ,its the same here . They do not learn their lessons even after people have took them to court ( we do have quite strict work practices laws here )

  • I know what you mean. The two principal's I worked under treated us like children. Worse, sometimes. I guess it's a power thing. Sorry you husband is being mistreated. If the shoe were on the other foot...

  • I'm really sorry to read this.  I would be saddened as well.  I hope things look up for you soon.

  • That is terrible! Employers today do suck. They want to work like dogs and treat you like a stray. I hope it gets better for you. and {{{hugs}}} always

  • I'm so sorry to hear about the treatment your hubby has recieved at work . You're so very right in what you've said here about employers! My hubby had the same thing happen to him as yours did. he was treated like crap and was viewed in a very suspicious manner by those that he would have felt "knew" him and expected more understanding and concern from.

I wish your hubby all the very best with his op.

  • G'day back at ya!! I hear you about employers, they really don't care, injured or not job security these days is a thing of the past, one of the many reasons I started up my own part-time home-based network business.  As for venting your feelings, no worries mate, thats what we are here for

  • Ahhh extra hugs!! You know I understand. I have to tell you that I had already commented on this blog but I see for some reason it didn't take!! Those wacky xanga gods! Glad I stopped back by. Hugs GF!!

  • Thinking of you ...

  • I'm sorry..I worked in Retail for 3 years and it was awful...if you had a set salary they really made you work for it, sometimes 10 -15 hrs extra per week..hope he gets better soon

  • At Christmas, I bought a 1 lb. box of Sees, hid it in the sewing room, ate it all myself!  I don't like to be teased and shamed about the candy.  I only do that at Christmas.

  • He needs to contact the corporate HR office.  Talk to someone in the Associate Relations Department and Benefits Department.  Associate Relations will step in and straighten up the bosses attitude.  If it's a work related injury, he is eligible for Workers' Compensation insurance coverage and maybe temporary lost wages.  He is also eligible for FMLA and those doctor's visits during work hours can qualify for intermitten FMLA.  FMLA provides job protection for 12 weeks.  I've worked in HR/Benefits for 20 years.  I'll be glad to help with questions if I can.  Just hollar.

    BTW, I love your background!

  • HI    SNOOZER IM  BACK HOME , ME AND TOOTY WILL  E MAIL YOU TOMORROW IF ITS A GOOD TIME FOR YOU. BTW, IM MSFANCY2001 IN YAHOO MESSENGER IF YOU HAVE IT.
