  • Hello...how is everyone doing, watching the SuperBowl huh?  I gave up when the score hit 37 to 3, no more for me.

I've tried to post some additional pictures from Australia but Xanga is not being cooperative again tonight.  Starting to become too much of a habit and getting tired of fighting with it.  Those Xanga gods sure have been in an uproar here lately and not being very responsive.  Think I'll take a break and see if things get better in a week or so.

    Everyone have a good week.

  • That's what I have been doing tonight, watching the beginning of the new American Idol.  Oh my gosh if anyone has been watching do some of these people really think they can sing?  They truly must be tone deaf.

Let me know what you think and if anyone else has gotten hooked

  • Well...we had an interesting visit with the Spine Center this morning.  The good news is the doctor feels that he can get along without surgery, the bad news is he wants to do a fluoroscopy lumbar epidural injection to relieve the pain and help initiate the healing process.  They are in the process of getting the authorization and will then schedule the procedure.  This doctor has done over 3000 of these procedures so we feel pretty confident he knows what he is doing.

We are meeting friends in SF tonight (the ones we went to Australia with) and going to dinner at a XYZ, a restaurant at W San Francisco.

Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy the 3 days off.

  • Off to a business dinner tonight.  Our SVP is in from Charlotte so those of us here at the Concord DataCenter are being taken to dinner ~insert big whoop here~  Let's see who tries to scramble around the table to sit by her.  Smoozing...not my cup of tea.

My husband goes to the California Spine Clinic on Friday at 9:00 am in Pleasanton.  Can't wait to hear what they have to tell us and what their evaluation is, should be interesting.  No more contact from the Worker's Comp Insurance yet so no news on when they will pay.

Have a good evening everyone, ciao.

  • Okay, ten slashes with a wet noodle please...I'm sorry I haven't been around lately.  All this stuff going on with my husband has been taking it's toll.  Plus my hands have been pretty bad.  If I haven't mentioned it before I have an appointment in the Neurology department on the 23rd to run tests for carpel tunnel...and then on the 27th with a specialist on hand surgery.

We meet with an investigator on Thursday from the Worker Comp insurance company (Travelers).  This woman put my husband through hoops trying to catch him up.  Additionally she did not like the fact that I was there and she made it known by saying so!  I was told I was not to speak and just there (invisible).  My husband told her that he would need to refer to me occasionally because he was not good at days, dates, etc.  Which he did a lot, I'm sure just to piss her off .  This interview was to take about 45 minutes....almost an hour and a half later we were finally saying our good-byes.  I'm trying to make this short but geesh I was so proud of my husband.  He really gave it to her...how he did not appreciate being treated like a criminal and a liar by this claim adjuster.  That she never returns phone calls, never sent the paper work in a timely manner, and the doctor that lied and said he had on solid information that he was snorkeling and scuba diving in Australia.  Let me tell you, my husband is kinda afraid of the water and doesn't know how to swim.  He really laid it on her.

After we got home and had been here for about 2 hours the phone rang.  It was the snotty adjuster...being really really nice (totally different from every other phone call) and telling my husband that they had accepted his claim that a different adjuster would be calling him and taking care of his claim from this point forward.  YEAH !  Now...we need to find out all the particular's...what they will pay, lost wages, doctors and medications while in Australia, mileage to doctors, etc.  Now he has to have the surgery as soon as they can get it done so he won't have permanent nerve damage.

I'm going to paint the master bath today, sage green.  We have gotten new hardware, medicine cabinet, light, faucet, etc and I want to get it finished before he has to have surgery.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll get around to everyone's site as soon as I can.

  • G'day to everyone, as I learned to say when we were in Australia   Got the pot going on the stove to make a nice stew for my hubby when we gets home.  That's one of his favorite meals.

Yes, today is Sunday and he has to work, (almost every Sunday).  But...as I mentioned in several blogs previously he injured himself at work (10/23) 3 days before we left for Australia, and didn't have such a wonderful time the first week we were there, unfortunately!

Now your asking what is the point to this story, it is about employer's in today's environment.  He has worked for Mervyn's (part of Target Corp.) for 12 years now.  His position reports directly to the store manager who has been there for about 3 years now, a woman.  They have known each other for the full 12 years he has worked there, as she started out as a associate on the floor like most people and has been promoted several times.  Now...because he is on reduced work duties and cannot stoop, climb, bend, all the things he has to do for his job they are treating him like shit!  His normal schedule is Sunday through Thursday, he does the visual presentation for the store.  This week's schedule is so erratic it's pathetic.  They have him going in at 10:00, 11:00 am until 8 and 9 pm in the evening which means he will have a problem getting to his doctor's appointments, which he has 3 a week.  His normal schedule is 6 am to 3 pm so he has time to get the store ready before it opens.  It just appears that no employer cares about their associates anymore!  You can bust your ass for years and the minute you are injured (on the job) they want to discard you like an old piece of rubber.  Plus the fact that they are still questioning whether it is a work related injury.  So...no money as of yet for the week and a half he was off work or the mileage to the doctors, etc.

Now since the MRI on the 20th of December they say he needs surgery to remove the piece of disk that has slipped and is sitting on his nerve or he will have permanent nerve damage.  This means he will always be numb on his 3 smaller toes of his left foot, the whole left side of his foot and up the leg!  I'm just not real keen on employers today.  You would think that they would be concerned for a good associate wouldn't you?  He never call's in sick, is there for all the extra time when they want him and this is how they are treating him now, go figure!

That's enough complaining for today, sorry, I shouldn't be depressing here.  Hope this finds everyone having a good time with family and friends.

  • Happy New Year

Everyone have a safe and fun New Year's Eve.  If you are going out remember to have someone within your party be the designated driver, if your staying home have a Happy New Year!

I had gone to Stargazers site and he had posted a letter he had received from a group that he is a member of.  That letter had to due with a petition that would stop vendors from selling disgusting "souvenirs" of that horrible day at ground zero.  I went and signed that petition and the following is a copy of the letter I received:

    Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the online petition:  "CREATE A VENDOR FREE ZONE AT GROUND ZERO" hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
    service, at:

     http://www.PetitionOnline.com/vendors/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might agree, too.  If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider signing yourself.

You can now choose to do one of two things, either go and sign the petition or ignore it.  I do not usually get on my soapbox about political stuff but this one just irks me and I think we need to stop them immediately.  If everyone would stop buying the stuff we wouldn't need to sign this petition but....obviously that is not the case  so we need to do it by other means.

Thanks for allowing me to vent my frustration here, but I have a problem with someone capitalizing on the devastation that occurred on 9/11 by uncaring stupid terrorists!

God Bless you all and have a safe and Happy New Year.

  • After reading most everyone's site it really sounds like everybody had a wonderful Christmas.  Does everyone else have oodles of candy lying around like me?  We received a couple of boxes of See's Candy plus a lot of stocking's filled with all different kinds of candy.  I don't think we will have to buy any candy for 6 months, (not sure it will stay good for that long, but only time will tell).

For those of you wondering about my BIL he is doing well.  He has been home for a little over a week now and they have him on medication that appears to be working well.  This is the best we have seen him in years.  He is starting to take control of his problem, and I believe by asking for help that is the first step to the road of recovery.  Thank you all for your kind words and wishes for him and his family.

We have had a couple of pretty bad storms here over the past 2 days but today, the sun is out and the sky is blue.  Almost makes a person want to go outside and start weeding , remember I said almost!  Yesterday my husband and I went to the Benicia Foundry again (that is where we purchased our patio set).  They were having a 60% off sale and we couldn't resist seeing if there was anything we couldn't live without.  Well of course we found something ~big grin~ never see's it fail huh?  Then, as it was pouring down rain we decided to stop at Sam's Club.  I was shocked to see they had all spring stuff out already.  Potting mix, pots, patio stuff, BBQ's everything you don't think about buying until the rain is almost over.  No wonder we can never find what we want when the time comes, everyone has purchased it during the winter time!  Well, we did do our damage, but only with a couple of pots for the deck and one for the family room.

Well, I'm beginning to take down Christmas today while he is at work so I better get back to business, everyone have a wonderful day.

  • Peace be with you and your family during this holiday season.

    Merry Christmas

December 23, 2002

  • First I would like to thank everyone for your kind words.  Yes...life does get easier with each passing year, however, losing someone at the holiday season (and not due to natural causes) does tend to make it difficult each and every year.  There memories are in my heart and always will be.

May all of you have a

    Very Merry Christmas.
